- We think it's great that "Leva här i Sverige" attentions the life in slums and the work that Peepoople spend to improve people's lives and health, said Peepoo promoter, architect Anders Wilhelmson.
The jury motivation was: "An inexpensive product with smart technology that provide solutions for one of the world's leading health and environmental problems."
- It is of course extremely inspiring with this kind of honor and something that pleased both me and my colleagues. We work hard to let Peepoo be able to help as many people as possible, not only by being a health sanitary solution, but also by creating a functioning ecosystem that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods for all involved, such as female micro entrepreneurs, "says Wilhelmson.
It is the third consecutive year that the magazine Leva (Living) distributes the Leva Bättre (Living Better) price in the categories, The Year's blowtorch, The Year's conscious product, The Year's Net enthusiast and for The Year's surprise.
Peepoo, the self-cleaning, biodegradable toilet was developed by Wilhelmson to solve the sanitation deficiency for the world's poorest. After several years of persistent work on product development and successful field tests in both Kenya, Bangladesh and Haiti, Peepoo is now on the market. The first Peepoo toilets went on sale in October, in Kibera in Nairobi, one of Africa's largest slums. Peepoo also offered to the disaster areas, refugee camps, schools and hospitals in developing countries.
